Good afternoon Parents! We had a special guest this past Thursday. Mrs. Lafferty observed our class and also demonstrated a special art lesson for the students. Because of this special day, we skipped our science lesson but we will revisit it this Tuesday. I will post photos today of student art work on the private facebook page.
Looking ahead:
DOGS DAY/SPIRIT DAY IS THIS THURSDAY 9/29! ALL DADS ARE WELCOME TO COME HAVE SOME FUN!
This coming Tuesday students will be taking the Chp. 3 Math assessment as well as the Quarter 1 History Timeline assessment. On Thursday I will be giving them the Phonogram assessment ( I will say the sounds for them and they will write down the letter that matches those sounds). Feel free to practice, in this way, over the weekend.
*Please note: We will be moving on this coming week to subtraction fact practice. We will take a break from addition facts beyond sums to 14. During 3rd quarter we will return to practicing addition facts with sums beyond 14. For now just make sure your child has mastered addition facts that have sums up to 14--you can wait to practice sums 15 and above. Also, from this point forward if there is an incomplete math workbook page on Tues or Thurs., that page will be optional depending on whether or not the student knows how to do the skill/concept. So, if your child can do one problem for you from the page and shows you that they can do it without assistance then they do not need to complete that page at home. If you can see that they need more practice then please have them complete the page for homework that afternoon/evening (I would not have them do it the next day). I also would encourage you not to go past 45-60 minutes of Math per day. Anything more than that will most likely lead to frustration for most kids. Do what you can with your child without hitting a high frustration level. A couple of helpful thoughts they can hold onto would be : "I can learn new things." or "I can do this".
Wishing you a blessed and relaxing weekend! --Mrs. Kimura
