Tues/Thurs Fortis 2nd grade 10/3-10/7

Hi Families! This week is the last week of Quarter 1.  Your children have grown so much already! Thank you for all your hard work at home and your patience as we all navigate our learning curves either with a new school, new grade level, or new curriculum.  "We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us" and gives us wisdom!  I will be posting more Science notebook grades this next week.

Fortis Second Grade Tues/Thurs 9/26-10/3

Good afternoon Parents! We had a special guest this past Thursday. Mrs. Lafferty observed our class and also demonstrated a special art lesson for the students.  Because of this special day, we skipped our science lesson but we will revisit it this Tuesday.   I will post photos today of student art work on the private facebook page.

Looking ahead:

DOGS DAY/SPIRIT DAY IS THIS THURSDAY 9/29! ALL DADS ARE WELCOME TO COME HAVE SOME FUN!

This coming Tuesday students will be taking the Chp. 3 Math assessment as well as the Quarter 1 History Timeline assessment.  On Thursday I will be giving them the Phonogram assessment ( I will say the sounds for them and they will write down the letter that matches those sounds).  Feel free to practice, in this way, over the weekend.

*Please note: We will be moving on this coming week to subtraction fact practice.  We will take a break from addition facts beyond sums to 14.  During 3rd quarter we will return to practicing addition facts with sums beyond 14.  For now just make sure your child has mastered addition facts that have sums up to 14--you can wait to practice sums 15 and above.  Also, from this point forward if there is an incomplete math workbook page on Tues or Thurs., that page will be optional depending on whether or not the student knows how to do the skill/concept.  So, if your child can do one problem for you from the page and shows you that they can do it without assistance then they do not need to complete that page at home. If you can see that they need more practice then please have them complete the page for homework that afternoon/evening (I would not have them do it the next day). I also would encourage you not to go past 45-60 minutes of Math per day.  Anything more than that will most likely lead to frustration for most kids.  Do what you can with your child without hitting a high frustration level.  A couple of helpful thoughts they can hold onto would be : "I can learn new things." or "I can do this".

Wishing you a blessed and relaxing weekend! --Mrs. Kimura

Second Grade Tues/Thurs 9/19-9/27

Hello Parents! Thank you all for working hard at home with your children.  I am seeing growth and enjoying working with all my students every week.

I have done some grading in the Alma system. Please check each subject area and let me know if you have any questions.  I want to make sure that everyone is successful this year in every area. So if there is a subject area where your child is below a score of 3, it's important to focus on that area consistently at home.  Looking for outside resources, games, practice books etc. as well as getting advice from other experienced Fortis parents would be recommended.  *Reminder to please have your child practice memorizing all the poems, math addition facts and grammar chants multiple times every week,

Tues/Thurs Second Grade 9/12 thru 9/19

Hi Families! Wow we are in September! Thank you again to all who sent in art supplies and items from the Amazon wishlist! I truly appreciate your generosity! It looks like our Math Facts are once again being mastered by most students. So this week I will be sending home a new set of sheets with a few more facts to practice.  If your child gets 95% or more correct then he/she does not need to do fact practice on the next home learning day. Also if your child is struggling with printing letters correctly or reversals of letters/numbers, please consider a special practice workbook or printing practice program to use at home like Handwriting Without Tears or another well recommended method.   *Please note I am looking at ways to change the blog schedule to incorporate the full week of schoolwork Tues thru Monday. For today I added a column showing next Monday's assignments.  This may change next week but I will let you know via email.
