5/11-5/15

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much for being such a great group of parents to work with this year, and for entrusting me with your children. Although the year did not end as expected, I am still so grateful for the time that I had with your child and the memories they left me. I hope I can still remain apart of all of your lives. Have a wonderful summer, and thank you again for such a great year! I consider all of you a friend and partner in the gospel.

Grace and peace,

Mrs. Poncy

Rock ceremony
We will have our 2nd grade rock ceremony Wednesday morning during our AM Session. This will be a chance for our class to have one last "moment" together. I will present each child with a rock and certificate that has a virtue I saw modeled in them this year. Of course, each child showed many virtues in class, but the one I chose for them was one that appeared as a distinct pattern to me, personally, and edified myself or others.

I will hand your child a small bag with their rock inside during our Fortis drive-by parade (stop by anytime between 4pm-5pm on Wednesday!) If you are unable to attend, I will leave your child's bag in the foyer.

Review ideas for the Summer (use if you'd like!)

Geography:
Review the 2nd grade maps (If ya don't use it, ya lose it ;))

Math:
*Review x's tables (0-10), and addition and subtraction facts. I am going to assign all the facts to your child in the Xtra Math website so they can practice during the summer if they would like.

*Have students complete reviews we did not get to:
TB 2B
1C, p19
2B, p25
2D, p33
2E, p35
Review D, p69
Practice 6A, p76
Review G, p89
Review H, p100

*Don't forget bar modeling for word problems! Every child should have a bar modeling example sheet in their binder. Email me if not. Maybe look over this to make sure that students are still setting them up correctly.

Reading:
Students need to be reading chapter books often. Students should be reading daily; 20-30 minutes preferred. Still read aloud to them so they can hear how you read and adopt expression into their own reading. (If reading sounds robotic, they need to work on their expression, rate, tone, etc)

Science:
Finish the Apologia Science journal activities at the end of the book. Consider going back and doing some of the experiments that maybe you didn't get to during the school year on your homeschool days. Review the, "What Do You Remember?" lesson review questions in the back of the textbook.

Grammar:
Begin the Shurley Level 2 Online digital textbook. There are journal prompts that would be a great tool to get them writing more for next year when they start IEW.

Spelling:
Review all the phonograms or any spelling patterns your child struggled with this year.

History:
Finish Story of the World; you can use it as a chapter book for independent, sustained reading!

Please let me know if you need any other ideas or suggestions! I have plenty of books/resources and I am happy to share. :)
