Dear Parents,

The first quarter is over, and that was fast! I know the students are going to really enjoy the holiday on Monday before we dive into the second quarter! Even though we have a shorter week next week, we'll cover a lot of ground, including division!

I'm looking forward to introducing responsibility this coming week. I thought that it went well with our historical figure/event we'll study next week on our timeline card, "Jerome Completes the Vulgate." Jerome was a scholar and devoted so much study to God's Word. He wanted to reach as many people as he could with the news of the gospel. I'm praying his example would be an encouragement to us all!

Important Info:

Parent Teacher Conferences: Please be on the lookout for an email invite I sent regarding Parent Teacher Conferences! I look forward to meeting with you! If you cannot make any of the dates/times, please email me and we can chat by phone.

Reading: We started focusing last week on the structural element of understanding characters in, Leif the Lucky. This week, focus on ways to engage in discussion after reading the assigned pages to help your child start thinking about the characters on a deeper level. You might ask, "What trait reminds you of this character? What do they say/do that makes you think that? How are they like Christ/unlike Christ? What do other characters say/think about him/her?

Science: I'll send home a weather journal template on Wed as we get deeper into our weather unit. This is a fun and easy way to have the kids start analyzing weather patterns and understand high/low temps, wind speed, etc. You can download a local weather app on your phone or look up the weather on the internet and have your child fill out the high/low temps of the day and wind speed. Return when the journal is filled out!

Math: Please continue to work a couple of word problems on homeschool days, focusing now on including measurement in your word problems. Use Practice 4A or Review A in the Math textbook 2A as examples. You can use these problems or also be creative and tie in more real-world examples.
Ex: I used 96 cm of ribbon to wrap my Christmas present. I used 85 cm more of ribbon to wrap my daughter's Christmas present. How many centimeters did I use altogether?

Classroom Job Applications: This week to correspond with our focus on responsibility, I will be sending home classroom job applications. Please have your student fill this out and return to me for a classroom job! I may not get to give everyone their top choice first go around, but I do plan on having kids take turns doing jobs they want and earning tickets for good work ;)
