4/27-5/1

Dear Parents,

We start Christopher Columbus by D'Aulaire on Monday! This will take us a couple of weeks to complete, but it is one of my favorites. The illustrations are beautiful, and I think your child will really enjoy this one. It is, sadly, our last book we will read this year.

Since we missed an extra week of school, we will barely finish our Singapore Math curriculum; we will definitely not have that extra week to complete all the reviews in the back of 2B. The reviews would be great to complete over the summer when brains gets rusty ;).

Please don't forget to text me a picture or email me your child's Time and Capacity Quiz if you have not done so from last week.

Have a blessed week!

Mrs. Poncy

Dear Parents,

This week we start our 2nd to last classical book, Francis The Poor Man of Assisi. I can't believe this is our 2nd to last book we will read this year! Assisi was very Godly man, and we will talk a lot about his character during our online discussions.

I am excited to begin another week on measurement. This is a unit that is normally very hands-on in the classroom, and we usually get a little wet in the process! It would be a wonderful idea (if you are not already) to do the hands-on activities in the HIG.

Have a wonderful homeschool week! I miss seeing your child in our classroom, but I am thankful that I get to see them at all. :)

Blessings in Christ,

Mrs. Poncy

Important info:

Math: Please continue to have your child practice their multiplication facts. The 8s, 9s, and 10s test is coming up in a couple of weeks.

South Asia Map: Please email me if your child would like to show off their South Asia Map skills! I would love to hear and see them recite the map. but it is optional. We will start memorizing the Southeast Asia Map next week (of course also optional!)

End of Year Project: Usually we do one more end of year 2nd grade project. I am thinking of having students create something and present online. I will email you more details as I figure out a good process for this. I am thinking one more science project for 2nd grade. This will be optional, also, but I think a great opportunity for them to hear from one another.

Shurley Grammar: Please email me if you would like me to set your child up with an online, Level 2 Shurley Grammar textbook! This is at no cost to you and can get your child warmed up to Shurley Grammar Level 3 which is the level they start next year.

Dear Parents,

This week I thought I would take a little bit of time to introduce classifying sentences the Shurley Grammar way during our online sessions, in hopes that it's one less new thing the students have to navigate next year. I have full access to Shurley Grammar level 2 online through June 30th, and I can set your child up with an online student textbook if you want. Just email me if you want me to get your child set up. They may even extend that June 30th date because of the pandemic, so you might even have longer. It's such a blessing that all these online resources are available to us right now!

Also, thank you for submitting your child's math and spelling tests to me last week!

Blessings,

Mrs. Poncy
