1/13-1/17

Dear Parents,

Welcome back from the Christmas break! I am so excited to begin the second half of the year with your child. I am always amazed at the growth that I see after a month off; some come back with less teeth and have grown an inch taller!

This week should be a fun one for your child. They love playing phonogram games and doing any hands-on-activities. Because of our new Mars unit, they will build their own Olympus Mons, (the largest volcano on Mars) and watch it explode! In History, many of you will be happy to learn that we begin a lot of wonderful Medieval history in SOTW. The students love learning about all the Kings and Queens and great Medieval figures.

Welcome back!

Blessings,

Mrs. Poncy

Important Info:

Math:
This semester we begin our Singapore Math 2B Curriculum! Please continue to review multiplication facts and practice 4s and 5s for an upcoming math assessment in two weeks.

Science:
Please send a 1/2 a cup of flour in a ziplock baggie on Monday. I will provide the salt, food coloring, and oil for them to sculpt their Mars volcanoes. If you do not have flour, please let me know and I will bring some for your child.

Handwriting:
Students can work ahead in their cursive book if they like and begin writing fully in cursive this semester. They will get better and better as time goes on! If there is an issue with me being able to decipher their spelling tests, I will kindly ask them to refrain from writing in cursive on spelling tests until further improvement :)

Reading Comprehension Skills:
This semester we will focus on Main Idea/Summary and Story Problem/Plot when reading our classical books. I will also be incorporating these skills into our history journal responses.

MLK Activities:
This week we begin a focused honor of Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. during our history time for all his work in exposing the evil and sin of racism and his fight for America to see all God's children of having equal and glorious value in the kingdom of God.
