Fortis Second Grade Tues/Thurs March 27-March 31

 Hi Parents!

Starting this week. Please have your child bring the red History folder every Tuesday and the Boxcar booklet every Thursday.  These are the days that I will grade them.  Also, the students came home yesterday with our new Math Fact Practice sheet.  I will be handing out a new packet on Tuesday. We will be starting with addition and then moving to subtraction. There are 81 problems and the time limit is 4 minutes.

Also, for Reading you should be using the booklet you have at home for The Boxcar Children.  

Update: Boxcar Children Comprehension Guide (CG)- Please read p 5 of the comprehension guide and then read p 6 with your students if you haven't already done this.  By now, the students have a lot of practice in answering content questions or even giving their opinion.  We are shifting to a little deeper level of comprehension.  The emphasis should not be on having the exact same answer (found in the back of the comprehension guide) but on giving examples from the text to support their answer.  Even if your student has been pretty independent with reading, this comprehension guide will likely require some discussion.  Answers should all be in complete sentences with correct grammar, spelling, punctuation and handwriting.  I'll be collecting them on Mondays to grade the previous week's work.  I will underline anything that needs to be corrected.  Please initial the top of the page once it's been corrected.

 Hi Parents,

I will be uploading more photos to the private Facebook group from this past month. Please be on the lookout.  Also, I want to let you know that we will be having a special Poetry and Prayer Recitation Day next month for our class. More details to follow but students will have an opportunity then, as a class, to recite the Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi for all of you to see.  We were not ready as a class to recite it this week but I'm sure by then we will be.  Please continue to practice at home and to discuss the meaning with your children Please save the date: April 20  in your calendars
